Our spent hops are now being used at Nedging Hall to compost and break down clay soil and lower the PH of the soil to grow certain plants that require ericaceous (acidic) soil.
Here's just a few other ways we're driving our sustainability forwards:
• Solar panels on the roof are generating enough electricity to heat and chill water, drive pumps, power the cask washer, chill the purpose-built cold store; with enough left to service all offices.
• Water used to chill down hot wort is collected back into hot water tank for next day’s brew, with the added benefit of a ‘free’ heat through our heat exchanger
• The barley used to produce brewing sugars is sent locally for cattle feed
• Hops used to bitter the beer are then put back into the soil
• The yeast used to ferment the sugars is harvested at the end of fermentation for future brewing
We only use four ingredients to brew our wonderful beers and the above shows that we are serious about being sustainable & reducing our carbon footprint.
